TCU Removal Updates
August 11, 2017
Dear Families of PS 163:
I am writing to update you on the removal process of our Temporary Classroom Units (TCU) located at the end of our driveway.
The School Construction Authority (SCA) circulated a letter on July 31, 2017 informing our families and neighbors of PS 163 that the removal of the TCUs would begin shortly. Demolition and removal is confirmed to begin next week, the week of August 14. In place of the TCUs is a playground redevelopment with a completion date of April 2018.
Since the 2015-16 academic school year, four of our cluster programs have used our TCUs: music, art, lower and upper grade science. For the upcoming 2017-18 school, those cluster programs will take place inside PS 163. Our music program will take place in room 305, while our upper grade science program will use our recently renovated science lab in room 218. Our lower grade science program will have part time access to room 218 for our second graders, but otherwise take place as push-in model. Lower grade, art cluster programs will also take place in the classroom as a push-in model. The physical education and computer program remain unchanged.
I do look forward to share more on the removal our TCU, the playground redevelopment that will take the space of the TCUs, as well as other school-wide updates during our fall parent teacher conference “Meet the Staff” night scheduled for Wednesday, September 13th from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Until then, please enjoy the remaining weeks of summer!
